Furukawa Electric Unveils New Optical Fiber Cable For Broadband WDM Systems
August 27, 2002
The Furukawa Electric Co.,Ltd.(TSE:5801)today announced it released a new
optical fiber cable using AllWave(R) fiber, a flexible metro
application specific fiber. Growing Japanese and Southeast Asian metro and
access market is its target. While OFS,ex-Lucent Optical Fiber Solutions that
Furukawa acquired last November with CommScope Inc.has been manufacturing this
fiber, Furukawa is ready to manufacture this fiber in its domestic plant
hereafter in addition to OFS.
Worldwide-popularized AllWave(R) fiber used in this new cable
enables full-range wavelength use from 1280 to 1625 nanometers. By applying the
OH-absorption-free manufacturing process that decreases the loss at
approximately 1385 nanometers to the maximum limit, available range expanded by
50% than before.
AllWave(R) is fully qualified for the international standard ITU-T
G.652.C, and has equal performance and compatibility with conventional
single-mode fibers in other specifications. In addition, the fiber lowers
transmissions cost using coarse WDM. This technique widens wavelength spacing
between channels to yield cost-effective network growth between the metropolitan
network and end-user.
For DWDM long haul networks, Furukawa Electric has a series of optical cables
using TrueWave(R) RS" fiber, a non-zero dispersion shifted optical
fiber.
AllWave(R) and TrueWave(R) RS are registered trademarks
of Fitel USA, Corp.
