Furukawa Electric announces creation of new North American Sales & Marketing Company

Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd, today announced the formation of Furukawa
America Inc., a new North America Sales & Marketing company that will be
responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of Furukawa and
Fitel-branded products to the North American marketplace. The company will be
headquartered in Peachtree City, GA, USA.
Furukawa America Inc.(FAI) is being created through the consolidation of
three existing Furukawa companies: Fitel Technologies, Inc. - Clinton, New
Jersey, Fitel Interconnectivity Corp. - Peachtree City, Georgia, and Computer
Memory Disk Corp. - Santa Clara, California. The company will provide sales,
support, and service for all products currently offered by the three existing
companies.
Customers will continue to receive support and service from the current
office locations in Clinton, Peachtree City, and San Jose. FAI's products will
include optoelectronic components, fusion splicers, optical cord &
connectors, and highly engineered specialty alloys.
"With the creation of FAI, The Furukawa Electric Company has established a
stronger, more capable organization to serve our customers in North America,"
stated Hiroshi Ishihara, Senior Managing Director at Furukawa and Chairman of
the new company. "FAI will be able to offer our valued North American customers
a broad array of Furukawa Electric's high performance products."
John Rogers, who previously served as CEO of Fitel Technologies, Inc., will
function as president of the new organization.
"This new organization will allow Furukawa to provide an even broader product
portfolio to North America while ensuring the best possible service for our
customers," Rogers explained. "Furukawa has always been committed to continuous
improvement, and by establishing this new organization, we're even better
adapted at quickly addressing the needs of the market."
The Furukawa Electric Company, Ltd., under their Fitel brand name,
manufactures a wide variety of communications related equipment and services,
including optical communications products such as optical fiber, optoelectronic
components, and splicing equipment. Furukawa is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
